FAQ

Q. What is the purpose of the schooling humans website?

A. I decided to travel around the world for one year and learn about different types of schools and education models. My goal is to participate in unique school environments and volunteer with organizations that are making a difference for the youth in their communities. While doing this I will document and tell the stories of the people and projects they are leading.

Q. What types of programs are you visiting?

A. All different types! A few examples include visits to an animal sanctuary that teaches young people about farming, sustainable living and animal care, and an NGO in Malawi that rehabilitates youth involved in crime, protects against human trafficking and works to keep girls in school. If it helps to create a better future for this generation of youth, I am open to visiting and sharing their story!

Q. How are you funding this project?

A. Mostly through my own savings, but also by organizing volunteer opportunities through a site called Workaway, the programs I visit provide accommodation and food in exchange for help with their organization. In the future, there might be opportunities to donate through Patreon and e-book purchases.

Q. what are the goals of schooling humans?

A. In general, I want to tell the stories of education from around the world and provide teachers, parents and students the chance to learn from each other. I don’t believe there is one right way to educate children, and by sharing some examples of innovative practices, hopefully we can learn new ways that could be beneficial to each other.

Q. Where can we read about all the stories from each visit?

A. Most of what you can read will be found on this website, but there will also be content posted on Instagram, YouTube and Facebook. Be sure to search for Schooling Humans and follow each one to get updates and learn about the places I visit.

Q. How long do you plan on travelling?

A. The plan for right now is to travel for a year, leaving in July 2019 and returning in June 2020. If everything is successful, then it’s possible to extend it for another year. We will see!
